More than 600 IPS elementary school student performers to take part in Bright House Networks Music Festival
Back5/21/2012
More than 600 Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) elementary school student performers will take part in the 2012 Bright House Networks Music Festival, which features students performing songs and movement activities and playing instruments that demonstrate the best practices in elementary general music education. The program stems from a continued partnership between Bright House Networks and Indianapolis Public Schools that began in 2000, and helped to restore music education, including band and string programs, in all IPS elementary schools.
The 2012 Bright House Networks Music Festival concert, titled SongFest, will take place this Thursday, May 24th at Northwest Community High School beginning at 6:30 p.m. The concert gives students an opportunity to perform music in a mass group and experience the sights and sounds of the music as they were intended. The music performed is from the current textbook adoption and represents the instruction expected across the district.
“Bright House Networks is committed to supporting education in its communities and we value the importance of providing young students the opportunity to express and challenge themselves through the arts,” said Don Williams, Vice President and General Manager, Bright House Networks Indiana. “Today, these schools have dedicated and talented teachers leading vibrant musical exploration instruction that keep these young minds engaged in developing skills for their future.”
The Bright House Networks Music Festival serves as a visual and musical reminder of everything that young musicians and their instructors have accomplished throughout the year, and is the flagship event of the Bright House Networks and Indianapolis Public Schools’ partnership.
